TV Drama Case Study

Eastenders is a long-running and award winning television soap opera first broadcast in the UK on 19th February 1985 on BBC1, and currently ranks as one of the most watched shows in the united kingdom. Eastenders storyline examine the domestic and professional lives of the people who work in the London borough of Walford in the east-end of London.

It broadcasts every Monday (8:00), Tuesday (7:30), Thursday (7:30) and Friday (8:00) on BBC1 and lasts over the period of 27-29 minutes, and repeats on BBC3 at 10:00. If you miss any episodes during the week, you can watch the omnibus on Sundays on BBC1 at 4:00. You can also watch it on BBCiplayer for up to 7 days of the original screening.

EastEnders has won five BAFTA awards and has won the Inside soap award for 'Best Soap' for ten years running, as well as eleven National Television Awards for 'Most popular serial Drama' and seven awards for 'Best Soap' at the British soap awards. It has also been inducted into the Rose d'Or Hall of Fame. It's also won six TV Quick/TV Choice Awards for 'Best Soap', three TRIC Awards for 'Soap of The Year' and three Royal Television Society Awards for 'Best Continuing Drama'.
